We are considering candidates in any of our California offices, including Century City, Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego (Del Mar), San Diego (Downtown), San Francisco, and Silicon Valley. There is only one opening.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a Billing Supervisor to join our team. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and possesses strong communication, leadership, and technical skills. This role requires at least five years of law firm billing experience, with one or more years in a supervisory role. Proficiency in Aderant or Elite billing systems is essential.
The Billing Supervisor oversees a team of Billing Coordinators, ensuring billing operations run smoothly, efficiently, and accurately. This is both a hands-on and leadership role, balancing staff supervision with direct involvement in complex billing processes, escalated matters, hiring, training, and staff development.
Essential Functions:
The Billing Supervisor manages day-to-day billing operations, supports staff development, and ensures timely and accurate billing. This position serves as a primary point of escalation for complex billing matters and interpersonal concerns, and requires close collaboration with attorneys, staff, and clients. The role calls for exceptional written and verbal communication skills and the ability to defuse tense situations, resolve conflict, and bring calm, professional judgment to moments of friction.
Required Qualifications:
Required:
Minimum five years of billing experience in a mid to large-size law firm.
At least one year of supervisory experience.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey information clearly, diplomatically, and professionally with attorneys, clients, and staff at all levels.
Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict, de-escalate tense situations, and navigate difficult conversations with tact, empathy, and professionalism.
Experience supporting hiring, onboarding, and training of team members.
Demonstrated record of professional growth and leadership.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Education:
Required: High School Diploma
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree
Computer/Software Knowledge
Proficiency in Aderant or Elite billing systems.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Typing speed of at least 50+ WPM.
10-Key by touch.
Work Environment:
You will be based in one of our local Sheppard Mullin offices with the flexibility to work from home.
You are required to come into the office on an as-needed basis.
Overtime may be required on occasion based on workload demands.
California: The salary range for this position is $56.00 - $67.00 per hour.
