As AI features move into Canva's core product, the cost of serving users (compute and model usage) now varies by product, plan, and market, so the company is building a dedicated finance function to model gross margin at that granular level, a sign that AI inference costs are becoming a central economic question for a mass-market design tool.
Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.
Hello, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!
Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.
Where and how you can work
Our global HQ is in Sydney, Australia, and as we continue to grow in our largest global market, we’ve made our way from down under to San Francisco.
Our Jackson Square campus blends the neighborhood’s vibrant downtown charm with Canva’s signature flair. The space is designed for both deep work and collaboration, along with spaces for Canvanauts to relax, recharge, and connect. We offer flexibility in how and where you work. We trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.
What you’d be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
As Canva scales to hundreds of millions of users and AI features become part of the core product, margin is no longer a single number. It varies by product, by plan, by free versus paid usage and by market, and the cost of delivering it changes almost every quarter. This role is the senior individual contributor who builds and owns the Finance view of Canva's gross margin by product and profitability by region, and makes it trusted enough to steer decisions. You'll sit alongside the hosting, GenAI and Capacity & Commitments finance teams, using the data and methodologies they own, and partnering with Accounting on the allocation rules that split cost across products and markets. Your work gives Product, Technology and GTM leaders a shared, reliable picture of where margin is made and lost. If you enjoy turning complex allocation questions into a clear view that leaders act on, this role is for you.
At the moment, this role is focused on:
You're probably a match if
We're looking for someone who gets excited by margin, data and stakeholders in equal measure. You see a messy allocation and want to turn it into a view people can rely on. You're the kind of person who catches the break between two numbers before anyone else notices, writes commentary a Product or Engineering leader acts on, and uses AI tools fluently to raise the leverage of your work. You've operated in an FP&A function or similar before, so the rhythm of monthly close, quarterly forecasting and planning cycles feels familiar. On top of that, you'll bring:
About the team
FP&A is a force multiplier, acceleratingCanva's journey on its 2-step plan! Step One, to become one of the world's most valuable companies; and Step Two, to do the most good we can! Working closely with Business Leaders across the entire company, we bring our financial expertise to bear, enabling strategic decision making that drives topline growth, plotting the path from goals to execution through financial planning, driving financial rigour and prudent investment, delivering key insights that lead to meaningful action, and increasing the efficiency of our operations. FP&A is on a journey to deliver a step-change in financial sophistication and rigour that will drive Canva's growth!
Tech & Product Finance owns the economics of Canva's technical engine, the infrastructure, cloud, compute, GPU and AI investments that power our products and increasingly define our cost base and margin profile. As Canva becomes an AI-native company, these are the fastest-growing and most strategically important lines on the P&L. Within that, Product Finance owns the view of how Canva's products and markets make money. We turn the cost base into gross margin by product and profitability by region, so leaders can see which products, features and markets earn their place and which don't. We partner closely with Product leaders, Technology leaders, and the GTM and International FP&A teams, and with the CFO on the decisions that shape our margin.
