About the data

  • These are open job postings on company career pages, not hires. An open role can stay up for weeks before someone is hired.
  • Every number covers the 65 companies we tracked for all of Q3 2026, so each week compares the same companies. 4 more were added during the quarter and are left out, since we don't have their count from the start of the quarter.
  • Also left out: the job boards of Albertsons, Amazon, AT&T, Caterpillar, Centene, Chevron, Costco, CVS Health, Eli Lilly, General Motors, Goldman Sachs, Ingram Micro, Johnson & Johnson, JPMorgan Chase, Kroger, Liberty Mutual, Lockheed Martin, MetLife, Mondelez, Nike, Oracle, Performance Food Group, State Street, Target, Travelers, Walgreens Boots Alliance, and Walmart. We couldn't fully see these boards during Q3 2026, so their early weeks would read too low. Any other boards these companies run still count.
  • Some companies list the same role in several cities, and each listing counts. For location, a job listed in several places counts once, under the first location the company lists.
  • 87% of open jobs at the end of the quarter are outside the metro areas we map, or don't list a location we can read. They show as Other or not specified.
  • 2,175 open jobs at the end of the quarter don't list a country we can read, so they are in neither the US nor the outside-the-US count.
  • 12% of open jobs at the end of the quarter don't have a level we can read yet, so they show as Not specified.
  • Jobs are grouped by function using each posting's title and description.
  • Q3 2026 is our first full quarter of tracking, so there is no earlier quarter to compare with yet.
  • We pull open roles directly from company career pages, refreshed daily, using only public sources and honoring each site's crawler preferences. More in our methodology.
