Key details
Why this role is notable
A large, heavily regulated custodian bank is putting agentic AI directly into its internal governance and vulnerability-management machinery, signaling that compliance and security controls themselves are becoming an automation target rather than a purely human review function.
Job Description
Who we are looking for.
State Street Alpha is seeking a highly motivated Governance Engineer who can help transform manual and repetitive governance and vulnerability management processes through Agentic AI, Azure OpenAI, process optimization, orchestration frameworks, and other engineering solutions. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with architecture, engineering, cybersecurity, compliance, product, operations, and governance teams to build scalable processes aligned to enterprise standards.
Ideal candidates are passionate about emerging AI technologies, cloud platforms, vulnerability management, secure software engineering, automation, process optimization, and building intelligent systems that improve productivity, quality, security, control effectiveness, and operational resiliency.
Why this role is important to us.
The team you will join is part of Charles River Development (or CRD), which became part of State Street in 2018. CRD creates enterprise investment management software solutions for large institutions in institutional investment, wealth management, and hedge funds. Together we have created the first open front-to-back platform - State Street Alpha, that was launched in 2019.
As AI adoption continues to accelerate across the enterprise and industry, organizations have a significant opportunity and obligation to automate manual activities, simplify governance and operational workflows, and create intelligent experiences that deliver measurable business value. This role will support the development of scalable, secure, governed, and production-ready governance automation workflows while helping teams adopt enterprise tools and platform capabilities responsibly.
What you will be responsible for
As a candidate for this position you will:
- Identify opportunities to automate and optimize manual engineering, operational, governance, compliance, and business processes.
- Design and build AI-powered workflows using Agentic AI, Azure OpenAI, orchestration frameworks, and enterprise automation technologies.
- Create automation pipelines supporting engineering, cybersecurity, governance, audit, compliance, reporting, and operational processes.
- Implement observability, monitoring, evaluation, performance measurement, and operational controls for governance solutions.
- Support teams across CRD/Alpha/State Street with governance tasks, including vulnerability management, lifecycle management, configuration management, and patch management.
- Create reusable patterns, libraries, accelerators, and reference architectures for governance automation initiatives.
What we value
- Strong engineering mindset with a passion for automation, reliability, security, and innovation.
- Ability to translate business problems and manual processes into scalable solutions.
- Interest in AI technologies, vulnerability management, cloud platforms, agentic workflows, and enterprise architecture.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with architecture, engineering, cybersecurity, compliance, operational, and financial management teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to operational efficiency, responsible consumption, and cost optimization.
- Ability to document technical designs, governance requirements, and operational processes clearly.
- Self-driven mindset with a willingness to learn emerging AI technologies, governance frameworks, and optimization practices.
Education & Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree in a technical, engineering, software development, information systems, data science, or analytical field, or equivalent experience.
- 7 to 9+ years of vulnerability management, security engineering, patch management, cloud engineering, or related experience.
- Hands-on experience in enterprise Vulnerability Management and Patch Management programs.
- Strong experience with vulnerability assessment, remediation tracking, risk prioritization, and vulnerability lifecycle management.
- Proficiency with: Qualys VMDR, Microsoft Defender Vulnerability Management, ServiceNow Vulnerability Response (VR), and Lansweeper or similar asset management platforms
- Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Knowledge of security reporting and dashboard development.
- Experience tracking risk metrics, remediation SLAs, and vulnerability trends.
- Experience with automation technologies such as: PowerShell and Power Automate
- Experience with CVE analysis and CVSS scoring.
- Understanding of security hardening standards and secure configuration management.
- Familiarity with cloud security concepts and enterprise security operations.
- Strong understanding of security patching and remediation validation.
- Experience supporting security audits and compliance initiatives.
- Ability to coordinate with diverse teams across the enterprise to drive timely vulnerability remediation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
