Staff C++ Software Engineer - Static AI Engine

As a Staff (techlead-level) C++ Software Engineer joining our team, you should be passionate about cybersecurity, able to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly and bring an existing breadth of diverse experience. You will power our product's core detection capabilities "Static AI" - and for that, we need colleagues who look at the world differently, who explore, live to beat the system, and challenge it - people who can drive the development of a disruptive product from initial stages to production. Our team brings together cross-functional skill sets, software engineering, data science, and ML engineering, to research, develop, ship, and support static malware detection engines across Windows, macOS, Linux, and cloud environments. We rely on strong communication and an "all hands on deck" team-player mindset to turn research into production-ready code that runs at massive scale.

What will you do?

Primary responsibilities include:

• You will develop the agent side of SentinelOne's static detection engines, responsible for scanning billions of customer files daily. These engines are running on and protect tens of millions of customer endpoints worldwide, including at 4 of Fortune 10 and hundreds of Global 2000 organizations.
• We are an AI-oriented engineering team. We believe in automating the mundane so our developers can focus on high-level architecture and complex problem-solving - and we provide the latest enterprise AI tools and encourage a culture of "working smarter, not harder."
• Detection flow design: Collaborating with our Windows, macOS, and Linux teams, design our detection flows and implement cutting-edge static detection research into our industry-leading endpoint security product (recognized as Leaders by Gartner, #1 in MITRE ATT&CK, in SE Labs, and by others).
• Performance & stability: Tune multi-threaded production code for maximum performance and stability across heterogeneous OS and hardware environments.
• Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with Data Scientists and ML Engineers to translate research into production-ready detection engines, and partner with platform teams to ship safely to tens of millions of endpoints.
• Core AI engine: Make innovative improvements to the core AI engine (our team has created and developed patented AI models over the past few years, that sit at the core of the engine) and to our training data pipeline to maximize detection impact.
• Production excellence: Own the production lifecycle of what you build - strong coding standards, thorough testing, and healthy CI - to ensure reliability and performance of the engine in the wild

What Skills and Knowledge Will You Bring?

Ideal candidates will have:

• Several years of experience developing complex production systems
• Strong command of modern low-level C++
• Production experience - a high bar for coding quality, testing, and working effectively with CI
• Ability to dive into a new technological field and master it; a self-learner with a solid software engineering / CS background
• Strong communication skills - our team has a diverse and sometimes uniquely specialized set of skills, and we need members who can communicate with people outside the team (product, support, engineering, research) across a globally distributed organization
• A fiery determination and a strong team-player mindset - the team's defining trait is an "all hands on deck" attitude
• It’d be great if you have experience with / or You’d learn & gain on our team:
• Malware research
• Parsing file formats
• Knowledge of XGBoost and experience building ML pipelines
• Previous experience developing cross-platform components and a solid understanding of different operating systems (Windows / macOS / Linux)
• Experience deploying and running ML in production environments, or with MLOps tooling
• Experience leveraging modern AI developer tooling to accelerate engineering work
