About the role
Rippling's Infrastructure organization owns the foundational systems that power every product and service across the company. Supporting more than 1,000 engineers and millions of end users, the Cloud Infrastructure team is responsible for the reliability, scalability, and operational excellence of Rippling's production environment.
As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will lead the team responsible for the core cloud infrastructure that underpins the entire platform. This includes Kubernetes orchestration, infrastructure automation, production networking, capacity management, disaster recovery, and the systems that ensure Rippling remains highly available as the company continues to scale.
You will partner closely with engineering teams across the organization to provide a secure, reliable, and scalable foundation for product development while driving operational excellence and infrastructure modernization.
What you will do
Lead and grow a team responsible for Rippling's core cloud infrastructure and production platform
Define the long-term strategy for infrastructure scalability, reliability, and operational excellence
Own Kubernetes platform architecture, cluster management, and production infrastructure lifecycle
Drive infrastructure automation through Infrastructure as Code and platform self-service capabilities
Establish best practices around observability, monitoring, incident response, and disaster recovery
Partner with engineering teams to improve system reliability, deployment safety, and operational efficiency
Lead large-scale infrastructure initiatives spanning multiple engineering organizations
Develop and mentor engineers while maintaining a strong culture of ownership and technical excellence
Drive improvements in cost efficiency, capacity planning, and cloud resource management
What you will need
8+ years of software or infrastructure engineering experience
4+ years of engineering management experience
Deep expertise in AWS and large-scale cloud infrastructure
Strong experience operating Kubernetes in production environments
Expertise in Infrastructure as Code technologies such as Terraform and Helm
Experience leading highly available distributed systems at scale
Strong operational mindset with experience managing production incidents and reliability programs
Experience developing senior engineers, Staff Engineers, and Principal Engineers
Excellent cross-functional leadership and communication skills
