Why this role is notable
A large pharmaceutical company is treating model inference cost as a managed business metric, with a dedicated owner converting AI spend into build-buy-partner decisions and deciding which China-built AI tools get scaled globally.
Job Description
1. Role Summary
The AIT Value & Performance Lead owns the value case for Pfizer China’s AI portfolio — business cases, KPIs and benefits realization, with model-cost as a core value lever. The role converts market insights into Build-Buy-Partner and AI investment decisions, and identifies globally reusable China capabilities, framing the value case and prioritizing productization investment.
Working across the AITO acceleration and portfolio teams, the role provides the economic discipline and performance transparency that guide what AI is worth doing, at what cost, and where China-for-Global reuse creates the most value.
2. Key Accountabilities
- Own AI business cases, KPIs and benefits realization across the portfolio, establishing consistent value criteria and tracking realized value.
- Establish model-cost / cost-per-outcome as a managed value lever, bringing economic transparency to model and solution choices.
- Convert market and commercial insights into Build-Buy-Partner recommendations and AI investment decisions, in partnership with GTMx.
- Identify globally reusable China AI portfolio capabilities, frame the value case for global reuse and prioritize productization investment with International AIT, partnering with GCA where analytics/insight capabilities are involved.
- Provide portfolio performance reporting and value dashboards that inform funding gates and scale or stop decisions.
- Partner with the AIT Acceleration Lead and AI product owners to connect product and MVP decisions to value cases and benefit tracking.
- Support the China AIT SteerCo investment reviews.
3. Required Capabilities & Competencies
(a) Critical Capabilities & Qualifications
- Value and investment management: business cases, KPIs, benefits realization and portfolio value tracking.
- AI and technology economics, including model-cost / cost-per-outcome analysis and Build-Buy-Partner evaluation.
- Commercial and market insight, financial analysis and executive-ready performance reporting.
- Working understanding of AI solutions and delivery sufficient to challenge value, cost and reuse assumptions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Analytics, Engineering or a closely related discipline; an advanced technical or business degree is preferred.
- Typically 12+ years of progressive relevant experience across value, investment, analytics or commercial finance, at scope and complexity appropriate to the Senior Manager – Associate Director level.
- Demonstrated ability to work across business, product, technology, data and governance stakeholders in a matrixed environment.
- Experience in a highly regulated industry and the China commercial environment is preferred.
(b) Leadership Expectations
- Outcome ownership: connects decisions to measurable business, user, service and transformation outcomes.
- AI-first and enterprise-minded: applies responsible AI, reuse, architecture, security, privacy and scale principles appropriate to the work.
- POD collaboration: enables clear accountability, effective cross-functional execution and minimal handoff friction across peer teams and partners.
- Precision and learning: communicates clearly, documents decisions, uses evidence and telemetry and continuously improves delivery.
- Value focus: connects every AI choice to a clear, evidenced business case and realized benefit.
4. Key Collaboration
The role partners with the AIT Acceleration Lead, AI product owners and the AIT Portfolio PMO within AITO, under the AITO Head, and works closely with Go-to-Market Transformation (GTMx) on Build-Buy-Partner and investment decisions. It partners with Global Commercial Analytics (GCA) and China Business Units for market insight and value validation, and with Finance and Procurement on investment and cost. It also engages International AIT to frame the value case for globally reusable China capabilities.
5. Measures of Success
- Clear, consistent business cases and realized value tracked across the AI portfolio.
- Model-cost / cost-per-outcome actively managed and transparent in investment decisions.
- Timely Build-Buy-Partner and investment recommendations grounded in market insight.
- Globally reusable China AI capabilities identified, value-framed and prioritized for productization within the AI portfolio.
- Reliable portfolio performance reporting that informs funding gates and scale or stop decisions.
