About Nutanix
Nutanix Japan is currently in an exciting growth phase that can be described as its "second founding period," evolving into a platform that supports the AI era.
As a pioneer in HCI (Hyperconverged Infrastructure), Nutanix has fundamentally changed the standard for IT infrastructure. However, we are not merely an HCI vendor. Addressing critical enterprise challenges—specifically "where to safely run AI and how to protect data"—we serve as a "hybrid multicloud platformer" seamlessly connecting on-premises, cloud, and edge environments, delivering true freedom of choice to our customers.
Rather than operating in an established market, we actively shape the market for next-generation IT architecture (such as Containers, Kubernetes, and Agentic AI). In this dynamic environment, would you like to take an active role in building the future with us?
Our culture is deeply rooted in our core values—"Hungry, Humble, Honest, with Heart"—where ambitious challenges are supported by a collaborative, mutually supportive environment.
About the Team
A Systems Reliability Engineer (SRE) at Nutanix is far more than traditional technical support. SREs are technical specialists who enhance the reliability of infrastructure driving customer businesses and deliver exceptional customer experiences. We offer a growth-oriented culture and environment where motivated early- and mid-career engineers can make significant professional leaps.
In this role, you will belong to an engineering team that helps solve customer issues from a technical standpoint for organizations utilizing Nutanix products and services. Operating on an end-to-end ownership model where engineers handle support cases from initial contact to final resolution, the role offers rich growth opportunities to acquire broad experience and deep expertise.
Furthermore, we prioritize understanding the underlying challenges and objectives of our customers to drive their business success—going beyond simple technical troubleshooting. We are seeking passionate engineers who want to continuously learn, sharpen their skills at the forefront of technology, and shape the next generation of support operations with us.
Unrivaled Growth Opportunities as a Nutanix SRE
- Advanced Troubleshooting in Hybrid Multicloud Environments: Grounded in a deep understanding of core infrastructure technologies—such as virtualization, networking, storage, and operating systems—you will gain hands-on exposure to multicloud environments like Nutanix Cloud Clusters (NC2). Solving increasingly complex infrastructure challenges provides practical experience that drastically boosts your market value as an engineer.
- Deepening Specialized Skills & Career Paths via vTeams: Nutanix features "vTeams"—specialized groups focused on specific technology domains. Alongside daily case handling, you can dive deeply into areas aligned with your interests (e.g., networking or virtualization). Systemic mentorship and skill training further accelerate your career trajectory toward becoming a specialist.
- Driving Next-Gen Support Powered by AI (NIVA): We actively leverage AI strategy and data analytics to optimize operations. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to true support innovation—using cutting-edge technology to transform how support works rather than settling for traditional operational methods.
- Code-Level Root-Cause Analysis: Support at Nutanix goes beyond surface-level fixes. By performing code-level analysis to gain deep insights into product behavior, you will refine your fundamental problem-solving abilities and dramatically elevate your engineering skill set.
We deeply value being "Hungry, Humble, Honest, with Heart." We welcome applications from individuals eager to keep learning, act with humility, honesty, and empathy toward customers and team members, and sharpen their technical and problem-solving skills in a global environment.
What We Expect from You
- Onboarding & Certification: Participate in an onboarding program for approximately 3 months post-hire (tailored individually based on prior experience) under the guidance of trainers and mentors to gain product, service, and support skills, followed by pursuing Nutanix certifications.
- Gradual Case Progression: After onboarding, progress step-by-step from shadowing under a mentor and handling simple cases to taking on highly complex support cases.
- Product Improvement Contributions: In addition to resolving customer technical issues, contribute to product enhancements by creating Knowledge Base (KB) articles and logging product feature/bug requests for development engineers.
- Internal Projects: Engage in various internal projects focused on organizational growth and improvement after an initial settling-in period.
- Cross-Platform Knowledge Acquisition: Expand technical knowledge beyond Nutanix to include competitor virtualization products and public clouds (supported by internal certification assistance programs).
- Proactive Preventive Maintenance: Perform health checks and share analysis results on customer environments to support proactive maintenance efforts.
- Ecosystem Collaboration & Feedback: Provide feedback to product engineering based on customer voices and real-world use cases, test new features prior to commercial release, share knowledge/experiences across the team, and create/update FAQ documentation.
- Technology Partner Collaboration: Work with technology partners (HPE, Dell, Fujitsu, Hitachi, VMware, Citrix, Microsoft, etc.) to resolve issues and drive broader ecosystem improvements.
- On-Call Rotation: Participate in a scheduled, off-hours on-call rotation to handle high-urgency customer inquiries.
Requirements (MUST)
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in one or more core technical domains: Virtualization, Servers, Networking, Storage, Linux, Cloud, etc.
- Customer-facing experience (Support, System Operations, Systems Engineering, Project Work, etc.).
- Practical troubleshooting experience.
- Willingness to learn cloud technologies and track industry trends.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to meet expectations of internal and external stakeholders.
- Deep understanding of the importance of identifying and solving a customer's true underlying challenge.
- Native-level Japanese fluency across all four skill areas (Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening).
- Valid work permit in Japan.
Preferences (WANT)
- Reading and writing English proficiency to navigate internal technical documentation easily.
- Experience collaborating with international teams or global organizations.
- Basic programming knowledge, software development experience, or debugging skills.
- Hands-on experience or equivalent knowledge of infrastructure hardware devices.
- Hands-on experience or equivalent knowledge in public cloud operations or architecture.
