The Director of Business Development is a senior client-facing professional within the firm’s trust company responsible for business development, relationship management, and delivery of integrated wealth and fiduciary solutions to high-net-worth (HNW) and ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) individuals and families.This role requires demonstrated ability to generate, develop and transition new fiduciary client relationships, and partner effectively with attorneys and Trust Company staff. The Director of Business Development serves as the primary relationship lead, providing strategic wealth guidance while coordinating investment implementation and fiduciary services across internal teams. A hybrid work schedule is available for this position.Reporting Relationship: This position reports directly to the CEO, Nixon Peabody Trust Company.Location: Boston, MAJob Responsibilities:Business Development & GrowthDevelop and execute plans to grow trust, fiduciary, custody, and investment management services offered by the Trust Company.Develop and strengthen referral relationships with firm attorneys and internal stakeholders. Build and maintain external centers of influence (COI) networks consistent with firm policies regarding referrals, marketing, and conflicts management. Represent the trust company through client events, educational programs, and thought leadership initiatives.Relationship Management & Client ExperienceDeliver a high-touch service experience consistent with the standards of a professional service organization. Lead client discovery conversations to identify objectives, priorities, and planning needs. Coordinate service delivery across investments, trust administration, and legal professionals. Manage client meeting cadence, agendas, follow-up items, and ongoing stakeholder communication across complex family structures, trusts, entities, and foundations. Identify opportunities to deepen and expand multigenerational client relationships. Fiduciary Advisory & Attorney PartnershipIdentify fiduciary and trust planning opportunities and collaborate with attorneys and trust professionals to structure appropriate solutions. Support onboarding and implementation of new trust relationships, including intake, account acceptance, and coordination with fiduciary administration teams. Ensure alignment with governing documents, fiduciary standards, and applicable regulatory requirements. Investment Guidance & CoordinationProvide strategic investment guidance related to risk tolerance, asset allocation, liquidity planning, concentrated positions, and tax-aware investment considerations. Translate client objectives into actionable portfolio strategies in partnership with the CIO and investment team. Communicate investment strategy, performance, and planning implications clearly and effectively to clients. Identify investment-related planning opportunities, including charitable strategies, liquidity events, and trust distribution coordination. Risk Management & Professional StandardsMaintain thorough documentation of client objectives, recommendations, and action items. Ensure appropriate disclosures, engagement documentation, and clarity regarding legal, fiduciary, and investment roles. Identify and escalate conflicts of interest and professional responsibility matters through appropriate internal channels. Adhere to all applicable compliance, privacy, recordkeeping, and regulatory requirements.To perform this job successfully, you must be able to perform each essential job responsibility listed above, satisfactorily.
