The Application Engineer is responsible for configuring, programming, and optimizing process control applications within the ABB 800xA DCS environment. This role focuses on control logic design, HMI development, and project execution for industrial automation projects in sectors such as power, utilities & facility, and manufacturing. function.
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to)
• Develop and implement control strategies, logic diagrams, and HMI graphics using ABB 800xA tools.
• Configure system components, control loops, and alarm management functions.
• Perform system testing, simulation, and validation of control logic and process interlocks.
• Support project lifecycle from design through commissioning and handover.
• Collaborate with project managers and clients to define functional requirements and design specifications.
• Provide on-site startup and commissioning support for ABB 800xA systems.
• Participate in system upgrades, migrations, and performance tuning activities.
• Create and maintain detailed project documentation, including test procedures, configuration guides, and operator manuals.
• Support with troubleshooting
• Set connections from control system to high level information systems with OPC DA/UA and similar protocols.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Automation, or Control Engineering.
• 2–5 years of hands-on experience with ABB 800xA configuration and programming.
• Strong understanding of control system design, PLC/DCS logic, and HMI engineering.
• Knowledge of process control principles and industrial communication networks.
• Experience with IEC 61131-3 programming languages (Structured Text, Function Block Diagram, etc.).
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
Specific skills
• Good skills in English since it is main used language
• Strong experience in ABB 800xA Minerals library
• Experience in ABB 800xA PCMS / Smartpower library
• Familiarity with cybersecurity standards for control systems.
• Knowledge of SQL databases, OPC(DA/UA) servers, and historian systems.
• Knowledge of communication protocols like PROFINET, Modbus, IEC61850
