Job Description

Accounting/Auditing

Harding, Shymanski & Co., P.S.C. (https://www.hsccpa.com), a leading public accounting and consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Tax Practice Senior Coordinator to join our Louisville office.
The Tax Practice Senior Coordinator is an experienced operational professional who brings both depth and independence to the Tax Practice function. Where a Tax Practice Coordinator handles defined processes under closer guidance, the Senior Coordinator owns their domain taking initiative, identifying problems before they escalate, and contributing to the improvement of the processes themselves.
This role works alongside Tax Practice Coordinators and reports to the Tax Practice Supervisor. It also serves as a resource for coordinators navigating complex situations, and may take on a limited mentoring role during high-volume periods. Senior Coordinators often develop a specialty area a particular service line, client segment, or workflow and become the go-to resource for that domain.
At HSC, we differentiate ourselves by embracing innovative technologies and integrated work models that enhance efficiency, collaboration, and the overall client and team member experience. Our Tax Practice Senior Coordinator plays a key role in leveraging these tools to deliver high-quality, forward-thinking solutions.
We offer a highly competitive compensation package that reflects the experience, skills, and value you bring, along with a comprehensive benefits program. In addition, you will have the opportunity to work on engaging, intellectually stimulating assignments in an environment that prioritizes continuous improvement, flexibility, and long-term career growth.
·Own assigned workflow areas with a high degree of independence
·Identify process gaps, recurring bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities within your assigned areas; bring solutions, not just problems
·Develop and maintain documentation for workflows you own
·Serve as primary point of contact for client intake and coordination for assigned team members or engagement types
·Handle more complex or sensitive client situations with greater autonomy than a Coordinator-level role
·Monitor engagement timelines and manage competing priorities across multiple teams or service areas simultaneously
·Coordinate billing, document follow-up, signature tracking, and client reminders with minimal direction
·Serve as a resource and informal mentor for Tax Practice Coordinators on operational questions, workflow navigation, and client communication
·Assist in onboarding new Tax Practice Coordinators and interns; help translate institutional knowledge into repeatable practice
·Provide backup coverage for the Tax Practice Supervisor on specific administrative or coordination tasks when needed
·Serve as a senior resource for busy season scanning interns; escalation point for day-to-day operational questions
·Take a leadership or co-leadership role on assigned department strategic initiatives
·Track and report progress; coordinate with initiative leads and department leadership
·Tax notice responses
·Simplified 1040 preparation
·High school diploma or equivalent required
·Associate's or bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or a related field preferred
·Minimum two (2) years of experience in a Tax Practice Coordinator, Client Service Coordinator, or comparable professional services coordination role
·Demonstrated history of operating independently and managing complexity in a deadline-driven environment
·Experience developing or improving operational workflows preferred
·Strong organizational skills with the ability to independently prioritize a high volume of competing demands
·Process improvement mindset; approaches problems by evaluating the system, not just the immediate task
·Professional written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to navigate complex client situations and communicate at all organizational levels
·Adaptable and composed under pressure during high-volume periods
·Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required
·Familiarity with CCH Axcess, Return Manager, and tax department workflows required at this level
Preferred Qualifications
·Experience in a public accounting firm or comparable professional services environment
·Demonstrated experience mentoring or training less experienced staff
·Familiarity with tax return types, engagement processes, and client workflows
·Experience owning or leading process improvement projects
Strong emphasis on people development, mentorship, and career growth
Exposure to advisory services and non-compliance projects
Collaborative culture that values balance, integrity, and teamwork
Opportunities to participate in industry teams, training, and firm initiatives
