Job description
Connect to your Industry
Our team applies industry leading economic analysis to address real world commercial, regulatory and policy issues for private and public sector clients. Our technical economic toolkit combined with access to Deloitte’s wider financial, strategic and industry expertise and the Global Economic Advisory network distinguish us from our competitors.
Through our global reach, you will have the opportunity to work with many of the world’s largest companies, including members of the S&P500 and FTSE100, as well as government bodies across the globe. As a member of our team, you will get the chance to actively contribute to our projects from day one, with early client exposure and active participation in developing methods and tools to serve our clients.
Connect to your career at Deloitte
Deloitte drives progress. Using our vast range of expertise, we help our clients' become leaders wherever they choose to compete. To do this, we invest in outstanding people. We build teams of future thinkers, with diverse talents and backgrounds, and empower them all to reach for and achieve more.
What brings us all together at Deloitte? It’s how we approach the thousands of decisions we make every day. How we behave, our beliefs and our attitudes. In other words: our values. Whatever we do, wherever we are in the world, we lead the way, serve with integrity, take care of each other, foster inclusion, and collaborate for measurable impact. These five shared values lead every decision we make and action we take, guiding us to deliver impact how and where it matters most.
Connect to your opportunity
The Economic Advisory team is looking for candidates with (or currently studying for) a Master’s Degree (or higher) to join our team of economists, based in London, Cambridge, and Manchester in September 2027.
Our work varies across both:
- Working across issues in policy, regulation, and subsidy control; business cases; economic appraisal and evaluation; energy market assessment and modelling; macroeconomics and supply chain, and
- Working in a variety of sectors including Energy & Utilities; Defence, Security & Justice; Transport; Real Estate & Regeneration; Central Government; Healthcare & Life Sciences.
We value the investment you’ve made in developing your economic skills through your Master’s or PhD studies in economics.
At Deloitte, you will apply microeconomic and macroeconomic theory alongside economic and econometric modelling to address business, consumer and regulatory issues facing our clients. You might tackle questions familiar from your studies—such as how firms and consumers respond to incentives, how markets should be regulated, how policy choices affect different groups in society or how investment affects growth—but apply them to live client challenges. This could involve shaping policy and regulatory frameworks in the energy and transport sectors, developing and appraising investment strategies, building macroeconomic models and forecasts for governments, assessing the economic and social impacts of major infrastructure projects or considering value-for-money from public sector investments.
Depending on the client question, you may draw on qualitative and quantitative evidence, engage with a wide range of stakeholders and apply approaches such as policy appraisal, behavioural economics and consumer choice, econometrics, financial analysis, and economic and general equilibrium modelling. You will have the opportunity to present your work both in written reports and in presentations and workshops with senior business and policy leaders. Our work is made better through collaboration, and in Economic Advisory you will work alongside a team of fellow economists as well as sector and technical experts from across the firm, both in the UK and globally.
Companies, regulators and governments look to us to help them understand economic issues impacting their business and policies. Your technical expertise and the skills you build in Economic Advisory will ensure you are seen as a trusted advisor in helping them make crucial decisions and making an impact that matters.
At Deloitte Economic Advisory, you will be part of a collaborative and supportive team, offering various training opportunities and career coaching. Some of the experiences you may obtain from being an economist at Deloitte are:
- Gain experience in a range of technical areas including economic analysis, market analysis, business modelling, strategy, policy appraisal, economic modelling, valuation and financial analysis.
- Develop solutions to a wide range of high profile and complex problems facing businesses, regulators and governments using a range of software and analytical tools such as econometrics, financial analysis, and economic general/partial equilibrium modelling.
- Collaborate with others through debate and discussion, whilst learning how to effectively communicate with others.
- Develop strong relationships with clients across a wide range of sectors and countries.
- Build long-lasting relationships with colleagues based on mutual respect and trust.
- Communicate effectively with clients through presentations, reports and meetings.
- Develop report writing, team working, project management skills and the commercial application of economic theory.
- Continue with your professional development throughout your career through training opportunities across both soft and technical skills.
- Work in multi-disciplinary teams across Deloitte on major projects for both public and private sector clients.
- Experience different cultures and local business practices, whilst working with colleagues and clients around the world, as well as enjoying opportunities for national and international travel and secondments as part of a diverse team with an inclusive culture where people are recognised for their contribution.
Connect to your skills and professional experience
We are looking for candidates who are studying towards, or will have completed, a Master’s degree (or higher) in economics or econometrics (with a completion date before Autumn 2027) or equivalent.
Some of our projects require security clearance. Therefore, we encourage applications from individuals that are willing and eligible to apply and obtain UK security clearance to Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV) level. Additionally, as part of your application and the assessment process, we look for evidence of the following:
Familiarity with, or eagerness to learn, one or more of the following tools: R, Python, STATA, GAMS and EViews. Experience of using AI tools, or an interest in developing this capability, to support economic research, analysis and communication—while applying appropriate professional judgement, quality assurance and responsible-use principles—would also be beneficial.
Ability to apply knowledge of economic theory and tools to real-life commercial and policy issues. Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to develop insights and solutions from data. Ability to manage your own work and timelines in order to ensure we deliver an exceptional client experience. Ability to explain economic thinking in non-technical terms to clients without an economics background. Ability to develop and foster meaningful relationships, always acting professionally and inclusively.
The list is indicative of some of the strengths we are looking for in an applicant and having evidence of them may be beneficial in the application process. We would still encourage you to apply even if you do not have all the experiences listed above.
Application Process
Applications will be assessed on an ongoing basis and will provisionally close 12th November 2026. Please note that this is a provisional guide and applications may close sooner.
