BakerHostetler is seeking a junior- to mid-level (2nd to 4th year) associate to join its Healthcare Privacy and Compliance team, which is a part of the firm’s premier and globally recognized Digital Assets and Data Management Practice Group. The associate will work with our regional, national, and global clients focused on the Healthcare Industry.
The work includes:
• Incident response work for clients experiencing privacy and cyber events including, but not limited to, ransomware and business email compromises
• Assisting clients with regulatory investigations from state and federal regulators under Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and applicable state laws
• Data security incident response preparedness training and counseling
• HIPAA proactive privacy compliance work
• Legal advice and counsel to the healthcare industry as new issues emerge, such as artificial intelligence
Qualifications include:
• Privacy and cybersecurity experience or litigation experience with a demonstrated interest in healthcare, privacy and/or cybersecurity
• An understanding of healthcare operations and knowledge of HIPAA compliance
• AmLaw 200 firm experience or experience with a boutique firm that specializes in healthcare law or data privacy related issues
• Post-law school graduation experience working with regulators or as a federal judicial clerk is a plus
The successful candidate will be skilled and experienced with the following:
• Exceptional project management skills and the ability to manage a fast-paced workload while maintaining priorities and anticipating issues
• Outstanding writing and oral communication skills
• Motivation to learn and understand technology and findings, effectively discuss those issues with technically skilled individuals, and distill findings for clients without technology experience
• Good judgment and the ability to apply legal knowledge to problem solve by developing strategic solutions
• The commitment and interpersonal skills to succeed in a collaborative and team environment that works across offices using digital platform
Location:
This position may be in Cincinnati, OH; Cleveland, OH; Columbus, OH; or Denver, CO
The salary offered in any location will be determined by a wide range of factors, including, but not limited to, experience level, education/training, geographic region, and relevant skills. Associates also participate in a performance- and hours-based bonus program. BakerHostetler offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits program, including group health, dental and vision insurance, paid holidays (10 days), paid time off, 401(k) plan, parental leave (10 weeks, not including disability, where applicable), family care program, wellness program, life and accident insurance, and short and long-term disability.
For Cleveland and Denver, the expected annual salary range for this position is $215,000-$225,000.
