What You'll Do</h3>
Avalara’s Excise compliance platform processes tax filings across the US, Canada, and Europe, supporting thousands of customers with complex, jurisdiction-specific return and eFile requirements. As part of this team, you will play a direct role as Avalara accelerates its AI-first engineering strategy. You will help expand Excise form coverage, improve platform reliability, and embed AI-assisted development into the team's daily workflows to increase engineering velocity. This role involves improving not only what we build, but how work gets done—strengthening architectural discipline and setting new standards for execution. </span></p> Casual AI usage is insufficient. AI must materially improve outcomes.</p> **Only CVs in EN will be accepted**</strong></p> This position is also open to people with disabilities (PcD), in accordance with Law No. 8.213/91 Responsibilities:</span></p> Deliver scalable, secure, backend and frontend systems that support Avalara's global compliance platform.</p></li> Develop ASP.NET Core applications and back-end services, focusing on the return and eFile engines.</p></li> Maintain existing Excise tax returns and develop all tax forms for the United States, Canada, and Europe.</p></li> Increase development efficiency by embedding AI-assisted coding, testing, documentation, and architectural exploration into daily workflows.</p></li> Contribute to AI-enabled product features that enhance automation, data processing, and customer-facing intelligence.</p></li> Improve deployment frequency, code quality, and automated test coverage through CI/CD and engineering best practices.</p></li> Reduce production incidents and improve system observability through thoughtful architecture and proactive monitoring.</p></li> Lead technical design discussions and influence architectural decisions for complex, distributed systems.</p></li> Raise the performance of the team through mentoring, peer feedback, and high standards of ownership and accountability.</p></li> Collaborate with global engineering, product, and team members.</p></li></ul> Required Qualifications:</u></p> BSc. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, System Information, etc. </p></li> 5 years of professional experience (3+ years of professional experience aligned to senior-level scope)</p></li> Strong hands-on experience with .NET Core (C#) building scalable APIs and services.</p></li> Demonstrated hands-on AI usage that improved measurable business or engineering outcomes (casual AI usage is insufficient; we look for material improvements in cycle time, automation, or quality).</p></li> Ability to apply AI responsibly and securely, critically evaluate AI-generated outputs, and implement governance-aware best practices.</p></li> Experience communicating updates and resolutions to customers and other partners for global collaboration.</p></li> A Bar Raiser mindset with high standards of ownership, quality, and accountability, and strong judgment in architectural and technical tradeoffs.</p></li> Experience with AWS cloud environments and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).</p></li> Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab) and Docker and Kubernetes in production environments.</p></li> Experience with relational databases, especially Microsoft SQL Server, and writing SQL queries.</p></li> Strong knowledge of automated testing strategies.</p></li></ul> Bar Raiser Expectations:</span> AI is embedded in our workflows, decision-making, and products.  Success here requires embracing AI as an essential capability.</span></p> You’ll bring experience using AI and AI-related technologies, ready to thrive here.</span></p></li> You’ll apply AI every day to business challenges - improving efficiency, contributing solutions, and driving results for your team, our company, and our customers.</span></p></li> You’ll grow with AI by staying curious about new trends and best practices, and by sharing what you learn so others can benefit too.</span></p></li></ul> Total Rewards </u></span></p> In addition to a great compensation package, paid time off, and paid parental leave, many Avalara employees are eligible for bonuses. </span></p> Health &; Wellness</u> </span> Inclusive culture and diversit</u>y </span> We’re defining the relationship between tax and tech.</span></p> We’ve already built an industry-leading cloud compliance platform, processing over 54 billion customer API calls and over 6.6 million tax returns a year.
