Product Manager - Global Business, SAP

What You'll Do About the Role Avalara is looking for a Product Manager to manage the roadmap of our SAP connector portfolio. The focus will be on SAP S/4HANA (Public and Private Cloud) and integrations applying SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), ensuring the success of this portfolio. This role is critical in ensuring Avalara remains the preferred tax compliance partner across SAP's enterprise ecosystem, while also advancing our product strategy through AI-powered innovation. You will have hands-on with experience balancing longer-term projects with bugs and customer requests, SAP partner requirements, and the technical realities of integration at an enterprise scale. You will partner with Engineering, Technical Program Managers (TPMs), and Tax Technologists (TTs) to deliver impactful roadmaps and results. What Your Responsibilities Will Be Responsibilities Product Strategy & Subject Matter Expertise Maintain an understanding of SAP S/4HANA architecture, APIs, and integration points, along with how how SAP BTP works with core ERP systems. You will have ownership of Avalara products that integrate with SAP (AvaTax, Returns, Exemption Certificate Management, Cross-Border, e-Invoicing). Stay ahead of SAP's roadmap, ecosystem changes, and BTP capabilities, ensuring Avalara's connectors evolve in step. Understand the competitive landscape for tax automation in SAP environments and articulate Avalara's differentiators. Roadmap & Delivery Lead the strategy, roadmap, and Plan of Record (POR) for assigned SAP connectors. Write detailed product requirements, user journeys, and acceptance criteria that define connector features, data mappings, and API dependencies. Partner with TPMs, Engineering, and Architecture teams to design, and validate scalable, secure, and performant integrations. Work with Tax Technologists (TTs) to ensure product direction is grounded in real-world deployment realities, translating implementation feedback into applicable roadmap priorities. Collaboration Be the subject matter expert for your assigned SAP domains Guide understanding across Engineering, TPMs, TTs, partner teams, and Support, establishing clear boundaries between product strategy (PM owned) and implementation execution (TT owned). Coordinate with external partners and Strategic Partner Managers to align Avalara's connector roadmap with SAP's product direction. AI Strategy & Innovation Define and lead how AI enhances Avalara's SAP connectors. Lead programs that apply AI to simplify guided setup, automate data mapping, detect errors, and deliver explainable compliance insights. Customer & Escalation Leadership Be the senior escalation point for product-level SAP connector customer issues. Collaborate with Customer Support and TTs to resolve escalations, identify causes, and feed customer insights back into product strategy for continuous improvement. KPI Ownership & Business Impact Define and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) including connector adoption, implementation time-to-value, customer satisfaction, and API performance. Provide clear, executive-ready updates on delivery outcomes and benefits for leadership reporting (SteerCo and Operational Dashboards). What You’ll Need To Be Successful Qualifications Required: 5+ years of product management experience in enterprise SaaS, tax technology, or software integrations. Comprehensive knowledge of the SAP ecosystem, specifically SAP S/4HANA and SAP BTP , and the complexities of enterprise software deployments. Experience managing a product roadmap, write clear requirements, and build measurable results. Proficiency in defining clear roles and collaborating in diverse teams (Engineering, TPMs, Implementation SMEs). Expertise with communicating complex technical concepts to both team members and external partners Background in tax compliance, FinTech, or ERP/financial systems. Experience building AI-infused product features. Pay Range Details The base pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different in other locations. Colorado $126,000-$201,600 (annually)  Washington $126,000-$248,600 (annually)  California $126,000-$272,500 (annually)  NYC $150,800-$272,500 (annually)  The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the state listed. The successful candidate’s actual salary/wage may be based on various factors, such as geographic location, candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. This role is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance, depending on the terms of the applicable plan and the employee’s role.
