The Assistant Bakery Manager supports the Bakery Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the Bakery Department. This position assists with production planning, merchandising, inventory management, customer service, food safety, and associate development. The Assistant Bakery Manager helps ensure the department delivers high-quality bakery products while achieving sales, profitability, and operational goals. This role assumes leadership responsibilities in the Bakery Manager's absence.
Key Responsibilities Department Operations- Assist in managing the daily operations of the Bakery Department.
- Ensure bakery displays are fully stocked, visually appealing, and maintained according to company standards.
- Support production scheduling to meet customer demand while minimizing waste.
- Maintain department cleanliness, organization, and operational readiness.
- Execute merchandising programs, seasonal displays, and promotional activities.
- Lead department operations in the Bakery Manager's absence.
- Assist with ordering, receiving, inventory control, and product replenishment.
- Monitor inventory levels and adjust orders based on sales trends and business needs.
- Ensure proper product rotation using First-In, First-Out (FIFO) procedures.
- Verify pricing accuracy, product labeling, and promotional signage.
- Support shrink reduction initiatives through proper forecasting and production planning.
- Monitor product freshness and quality standards throughout the department.
- Assist in achieving department sales, margin, and profitability goals.
- Monitor operational reports and performance metrics.
- Support labor management efforts through effective scheduling and productivity planning.
- Help identify opportunities to improve sales and operational efficiency.
- Assist in controlling expenses and reducing shrink.
- Promote and model exceptional customer service.
- Assist customers with product selection, special orders, and bakery-related inquiries.
- Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
- Ensure associates provide friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient service.
- Foster customer loyalty through superior service and high-quality products.
- Assist in recruiting, onboarding, training, and developing bakery associates.
- Provide coaching, direction, and performance feedback.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and associate engagement.
- Assist with daily work assignments and department scheduling.
- Support succession planning and leadership development efforts.
- Ensure associates follow department procedures and company expectations.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
- Monitor proper handling, storage, labeling, and rotation of bakery products.
- Maintain department compliance with company policies and operational standards.
- Conduct routine inspections and address deficiencies promptly.
- Ensure safe operation and maintenance of bakery equipment.
- Promote a safe working environment for associates and customers.
- Ensure safe use of ovens, mixers, slicers, and other bakery equipment.
- Identify and correct safety hazards promptly.
- Support loss prevention initiatives and shrink reduction programs.
- Maintain compliance with workplace safety policies and procedures.
